Office at the End of the Galaxy

Office at the End of the Galaxy

This is the first time I’ve seen the Ocotillo’s in bloom. There are red dots all over the desert.

That’s the view from my front yard.

As you know if you’ve been reading this blog a while, I have a cabin in the desert near Terlingua. I call it Portable Empire West. It’s desolate, surrounded by mountains, and has phone and high-speed internet access. That seems unlikely, but there it is.

I don’t recommend this life for everybody. It takes some getting used to. You need to enjoy your own company, for one thing. Of course, you’re never lonely with twitter and facebook. I’ve got thousands of songs on iTunes, and some surprisingly good Bose speakers. We’re rocking in the desert. Current selection is the Derek Trucks Band. Slide heaven.

I also brought my Martin guitar. I’ll do a little rocking of my own later on.

I’m posting this for a couple of reasons.

The most important is- you can run a Portable Empire from anywhere. I’m active on twitter right now. I just revised the sales page for UnSeminar6, put it online. I’m in contact with my web genius, and we’re discussing some stuff via email about future projects.

My friends know where I am, and how to contact me. I see them online most of the time, anyway. Betsy and the kids are used to me slipping away, and we’re just a phone call apart.

I just promoted the “Your Defining Moment” video. Sales are coming in- I’m watching. And grinning.

I never get bored with or tired of the desert. Sunrises and sunsets beat anything on the wide-screen TV. I just get one channel here, but it’s a doozy.

The mountains change and morph as the sun crosses the sky. Today is a little overcast, so the colors are muted and water-color-ish. Nice.

And, if I feel the need for civilization, well, Study Butte and Terlingua are just down the road. Restaurants with really really good Tex-Mex food. Kosmic Kathy’s hand-made burgers. And a bar where you can watch sports, drink adult beverages, and smoke a cigar- all at the same time!

What’s the marketing message?

Well, the message is that there are no excuses. No matter how you’re living, you’re spending more money than my little cabin in the desert costs me. I could afford this place on a guitar-player’s salary, LOL.

By the way- the elusive “Portable Empire Mentoring Program” is almost ready to launch. It’s gonna be affordable and personal. We’ll be doing web-chats, Phone calls (!!!), and I’ll be working personally with everybody who joins. Obviously, that limits the number of people who can take advantage of this.

And, I can run it from here if I want.

Stay tuned.

I just might.
