I was sitting at my kitchen table looking out over the Texas Hill Country. It was what I call a "Japanese Watercolor" day- Mostly shades of gray, with the occasional splash of bright color. Mountains obscured by rain and mist. I try to get up when Betsy does, which is pretty early. I listen to "Think and Grow Rich Automatically," while I drink my morning coffee and write in my journal. It give me an hour before the kids are up to watch the world outside my window, and some of my most satisfying writing has come from these sessions. It's amazing, isn't it? Every "guru" I read or listen to- Julia Cameron, Joe Vitale, Dan Kennedy... without exception, talks about the value of writing down your goals, intentions and plans. There's something magic and powerful about the mere act of writing. It's a way to connect with your subconscious, and if you listen carefully, it's a way for your subconscious to connect with you. There's something magical about writing, isn't there? I take the young-un to school every morning, and our trip takes us across a bridge that spans the Cypress River. It's not cold enough, yet, but in a Month or so, the mist rising off the River in the early morning will be hypnotic. Yesterday, the mist was more lying on the river than rising from it... still pretty interesting. Today, we've left Japan far behind. It's a high-contrast, hot and sunny day. The deer are huddled under the trees, and they're not real interested in doing much besides staying out of the sun. I can almost see the young Vincent Van Gogh. It was Japanese watercolors (actually woodblock prints, but they look like water-colors to me) that turned his mind inside out, you know. The Japanese used them to wrap exports to Europe. Van-Gogh saw some, and copied them over and over and over and the Western art world will never be the same. I wonder what ol' Vincent would have made out of the early mornings here in the Hill Country? What do you think? Do you find inspiration from where you are? If so, what have you created from it? If not, why on earth are you there? - Back to Pat O'Bryan's Article Directory- ****************************************
